Willhite settles on fine for alleged 2012 campaign finance violation

A campaign finance violation complaint from his 2012 Wellington Village Council run is finally in the past for Matt Willhite.

The former councilman settled on a fine of $300 for allegedly signing off on two campaign finance reports that included fraudulent or incomplete information — one that misstated the source of a donation and another that failed to list a $500 donation and expenditure, according to a report prepared by Florida Elections Commission staff.

The commission found probable cause in the case, but with the settlement, the matter is now closed.

Willhite, a current candidate for the Florida House of Representatives, said both were just small clerical errors. He was term-limited off Wellington’s Village Council after 8 years of service.
