The application deadline for the fifth council seat in Wellington has passed and the four-person council team will now have to get down to business.
Each of the applicants filled out a questionnaire and will have a short interview before the first cut is made at the next council meeting on Tuesday, April 12. Each of the four current council members will choose up to three applicants for a second interview.
The council will then make nominations until a selection has been made.
Here are some highlights from the resumes and questionnaires by the numbers:
19: Indicated they would be open to the idea of selling some or all of K-Park. (Note: This doesn’t mean the remaining 11 were completely against the sale. Some of the applicants punted and didn’t directly answer the question).
9: Women who applied for the seat. Mayor Anne Gerwig is currently the only woman on the council and Councilman John McGovern said at a meeting that he would like to see more diversity.
2: Former mayors who applied. Both Tom Wenham and Carmine Priore have served as Wellington Mayor in the past. They were also both elected to the first council after incorporation in 1996.
1: Married couples competing against each other for the seat. Both Evan Turk and Karyn Turk applied for the council vacancy.
0: Candidates who ran for Wellington Village Council this decade and took campaign contributions from either the Jeremy Jacobs family or Mark Bellissimo. So there’s that.
