Eleven Wellington High School students will be competing for national championships in debate competitions this summer, with one attending both.
Four will go to Salt Lake City for the 2016 National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) National Speech and Debate Championship Tournament from June 12 to 18. They are senior Victor Sanchez, juniors Caramen McDaniel and Connor Yeackley and freshman Zachary Jacobson, according to a news release.
In addition, the school will send 8 debaters to the 2016 National Catholic Forensic League’s “Grand Nationals” championship in Sacramento from May 28 to 29.
Those qualifiers are sophomores Sara Casey and Julie Cesta in Public Forum Debate; sophomores Brandon Schloss and Christopher Slaughter in Public Forum Debate; sophomore Bennett Aikey in Congressional Debate; sophomore Tinquisha Shaw in Oral Interpretation of Literature; sophomore Eileen Wheelen in Dramatic Performance; and Jacobson in Dramatic Performance.
