Invasive reptile in Western communities could be danger to pets

An invasive reptile has made it’s way to Florida and Wellington residents should be on the lookout.

Nile Monitors can grow from three to five feet, and they are a danger to pets. The creatures are native to Africa and have no predators in the Florida ecosystem. Experts said they may be especially prevalent near the C-51 canal.

Wellington and researchers at the University of Florida are teaming up for an awareness campaign. Anyone who sees one of the animals is asked to take a picture and call the invasive species hotline at 1-888-IVE-GOT-1.
