Developer Mark Bellissimo has submitted revisions his plan for a new equestrian zoning district that would allow him to build hotels in what is now the equestrian preserve.
Revisions are typical after the village staff goes through the plan and gives its initial feedback of what could work and what won’t. Bellissimo’s plan is to remove the current zoning of his equestrian venues and replace them the new commercial distinction, which would skirt the referendum that passed last year banning hotels, motels and apartments from the area.
Bellissimo has long contended that hotels are vital for the equestrian properties, but many others, like Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs and his family, think over-development of the preserve is bad for Wellington.
Initially, Bellissimo was hoping the project could be in front of the village council by the end of this month, but it still needs to go through all the boards and committees once village staff is finished with it.
