After months of discussion and several marathon meetings, the Winding Trails equestrian development project got its final approval Tuesday night at the Wellington Village Council meeting.
The council unanimously approved the project 5-0. Ward Real Estate is planning to build nine large-lot equestrian estates including barns with owners apartments and groom’s quarters on the defunct Wanderers Executive Course.
Similar to previous meetings, dozens of residents came to Village Hall to speak for and against the project. Since the last meeting, the Wards have made several changes to the project including changing entrances to enhance safety, a previous concern of the council.
Patricia Holloway, one of the developers, said a strong majority of Lakefield South residents now support the project. The speakers at the meeting were still largely split.
That was enough for the council.
“I feel very secure with the decision that this is a safe project that will work well for this community,” Michael Drahos said.
Ward Real Estate will plan to begin construction on lakes in the coming months and build the barns as they sell.
