The Equestrian Preserve Committee is on board.
The advisory board to the Village Council approved developer Mark Bellissimo’s proposals to remove much of the International Polo Club property from the equestrian preserve and eventually build hotels on the property.
It voted separately on five ordinances including removing the property from the preserve and changing the zoning to allow 100-room hotels.
Vice Chairwoman Kristy Lund said the board always has to balance the idea of preservation and promoting the equestrian industry. This time, she said she has to side with the developers because it’s important to nurture the horse shows.
“We have to change with the times or else we’re going to lose what we have,” she said.
Chairwoman Jane Cleveland voted against the zoning change because she wanted to see a master plan before she was comfortable passing it. The other four ordinances passed 7-0
The proposals will now go to the Planning, Zoning and Adjustment Board on April 13 and to Village Council on April 25.
