PBSO gives brief update on last week’s Wellington knife attack

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office gave the Wellington Village Council an update on the knife attack that left a former Wellington Idol winner with seven stitches in her hand.

The man who attacked Jessica Leow last week to steal her purse is still on the loose, said Capt. Rolando Silva. Leow described him as 6-foot to 6-foot-2, between the ages of 15 and 25 with shoulder-length dreadlocks.

The broad-daylight crime has been eye-opening for the residents, Vice Mayor John McGovern said.

“This incident has shaken some portions of our community to its core, and we need to be responsive and we need to be taking action,” he said.

PBSO will be increasing its presence in Wellington’s big shopping centers, but Silva also asked residents to stay vigilant and call authorities if they see anything out-of-place. He and Village Manager Paul Schofield will be doing around to different groups of people telling them how they can help.

Check back for a full story later this week.
